LEE SHAW Celebrates The Music of Billy Strayhorn at Caspe Terrace, 7:30pm.
Take The "A" Train To Caspe Terrace
For The Lee Shaw Duo on Tuesday, Nov. 5
Enjoy an evening dedicated to the music of Billy Strayhorn
featuring Lee Shaw on piano and Rich Syracuse on bass.
Lee Shaw has been playing the music of Billy Strayhorn
(e.g. Take The A Train, Satin Doll, Lush Life, Something To Live For)
and other great jazz and popular music composers for the past 60 years.
She learned from pianists such as Oscar Peterson and has shared
her knowledge with pianists such as John Medeski (a former student).
Today, at age 87, her name is usually used in the same
sentence as Mary Lou Williams and Marian McPartland —
women pianists who define quality and class.
It's not her age that will amaze you. It's her playing, full of grace,
charm and swing in every note. There is no one better suited for the
task of performing the music of Billy Strayhorn than pianist Lee Shaw.
And there is no better place to experience it than the intimate
setting of Caspe Terrace in Waukee.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Concert begins at 7: 30 p.m.
Enjoy a meet-the-artist after concert dessert reception hosted
by the Waukee Area Arts Council.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Student prices are available.
