Des Moines Community Jazz Center Announcements

Stu Calhoon Summer Scholarship, Workshop and Jam Session

The Stu Calhoon Summer Scholarship Begins With the March 1 Jam Session

Every spring, the Community Jazz Center of Greater Des Moines offers jam session attendees a chance to win a scholarship to the Iowa jazz program of their choice, including summer jazz clinics and private lessons. To get your name in the running, you have to attend the March, April, May and June sessions. Two names will be drawn at the June session for a $400 and a $100 scholarship. In conjunction with these session, we have invited local jazz educators to contact a 45 minute workshop prior to the 2 pm session.

Susie Miget To Conduct Workshop and Host March Jam Session
Local jazz performer and educator Susie Miget will start off the summer scholarship jams with a workshop at 1 PM on March 1. This will be followed by our usual jam session
from 2 to 4 p.m. Susie is working up a set list and I will send it out as soon as I get it. In addition to Susie, Dave Camwell from Simpson College will host a workshop and jam on
April 19 (see below), Chris Merz from UNI will be here on May 3 and Scott Davis will be with us on June 7.

April Jam Session Moved To Third Sunday of the Month
Because the first Sunday of April is Easter, we have moved the jam session to the third Sunday to coordinate with our annual CJC One-Day Jazz Festival. The session will begin
at noon with Dave Camwell conducting a workshop, followed by the jam session. Plan attend the jam and other concerts that will be happening all day at Java Joes on April 19.
